A very good eating orange. The original ‘Jaffa’ orange, for those who remember! Shamoutis have a very distinct flavour that is immediately recognisable and which distinguishes it from the Navel-types on the shelves at the same time. The fruit is slightly elongated and the peel of medium thickness, though relatively easy to peel.
Origin: Shamouti originated in Palestine in the mid 19th century. The name ‘Jaffa’ came from the nearby port, now part of Tel Aviv.
