Jack’s Salute is a red seedless grape of medium to large size. It has a pink-crimson skin colour, sometimes lighter, sometimes darker depending on growing conditions, and an elongated to slightly oval shape (narrow ellipsoid to somewhat cylindrical). The texture is firm to crisp, with good levels of sweetness (up to 22o Brix) and a mild, but attractive flavour.
Growers are attracted to Jack’s Salute as a late mid-season grape which is easy to grow without ethrel or gibberellic acid; has naturally good berry size; stores well and has virtually no shatter.
Jack’s Salute is similar to Crimson, but with larger berries; and similar to Sheegene 1 (Krissy), but with a more narrow ellipsoid shape.

Consumers will accept Jack’s Salute as an enjoyable red seedless grape, with a good sweetness and firm, but not too crisp texture. Samples from Peru have had a particularly good review.

Origin: IFG Nine is a product of the grape breeding programme of International Fruit Genetics, California. It originated from a cross between Red Globe x Princess in May 2001 and proven, during April 2004 near Delano, Kern County, California, to reproduce true-to-type through at least three generations of asexual reproduction. The variety is named in honour of Jack Pandol snr, a pioneering table grape grower and marketeer from Delano, California. The US Plant Patent for IFG Nine was granted in July 2013. The name Jack’s Salute® is registered and owned by International Fruit Genetics.

Sweet like candy, it lacks a bit of fruit flavor. Peel is a bit resistent, but overall a good grape

At their best, Jack’s Salute are lovely grapes with a crisp texture and good sweetness, though, as you rightly observe, don’t have much of a flavour.
