Jack’s Salute

(4 customer reviews)

Category:

Jack’s Salute is a red seedless grape of medium to large size. It has a pink-crimson skin colour, sometimes lighter, sometimes darker depending on growing conditions, and an elongated to slightly oval shape (narrow ellipsoid to somewhat cylindrical). The texture is firm to crisp, with good levels of sweetness (up to 22o Brix) and a mild, but attractive flavour.

Growers are attracted to Jack’s Salute as a late mid-season grape which is easy to grow without ethrel or gibberellic acid; has naturally good berry size; stores well and has virtually no shatter.

Jack’s Salute is similar to Crimson, but with larger berries; and similar to Sheegene 1 (Krissy), but with a more narrow ellipsoid shape.

Good Fruit Guide Rating: From Peru: ****. Elsewhere ***

Consumers will accept Jack’s Salute as an enjoyable red seedless grape, with a good sweetness and firm, but not too crisp texture. Samples from Peru have had a particularly good review.

Sweet, firm, attractive.

  1. Daniele

Sweet like candy, it lacks a bit of fruit flavor. Peel is a bit resistent, but overall a good grape

    • Nick Ball

At their best, Jack’s Salute are lovely grapes with a crisp texture and good sweetness, though, as you rightly observe, don’t have much of a flavour.

  2. Chris

Love ’em. We buy from our local weekly street market in Suffolk. Nice and firm, juicy and a decent size. No pips, brilliant.

    • Nick Ball

When at their best, Jack’s Salute is a lovely red variety. These that you have bought will probably be from Peru: a good source.

  3. Joni Hartzler

My first experience with Jack’s salute grapes has been nothing but marvelous. I’m now trying the Red Dragon and they are just as delicious as ever. I highly recommend any of their Jack Salute’s grapes. Also a surprisingly reasonable price at Sam’s Club.

      Thanks, Joni,
Jack’s Salute is a great variety when harvested at the right time. We currently have it is some stores from Peru and South Africa.
      Regards,
      Nick Ball

  4. Felly

    Hi Nick,
Trust you’re keeping well. Can you sell to me a container load of Jack salute out of South Africa? I would most appreciate.

    • Nick Ball

      Hi Felly,
Thanks for contacting the Good Fruit Guide. Unfortunately, we are not a fruit seller: only an information site for consumers.
      All the best,
      Nick Ball
