Fortune plum is a mid-season variety. It has a light red, smooth skin which gradually darkens as it matures. The flesh is orange-yellow and very slightly crunchy even when ready to eat. At peak maturity and softness, Fortune has good sweetness, and an attractively fragrant, though light, flavour. Similar in appearance to Sapphire and often on sale at the same time, Fortune is actually a later variety, and has slightly better flavour.
Ripening: Fortune should be left in a fruit bowl at room temperature to ripen. For the best eating quality, wait until there is obvious softness to the fruit when pressing with the thumb.
