Triumph

Triumph is a white grapefruit with the distinction of being the first ‘named’ variety, being released in 1884. It has excellent flavour and juiciness, but is a highly seeded variety, so while initially very popular, has been replaced commercially by more recent seedless varieties. The variety is unusual in its lack of bitterness and is often described as a grapefruit-orange, and is suspected of being a hybrid of the two (an orangelo).

Similar varieties are the Californian Imperial and, from Florida, the Mott, Leonardy, and Royal varieties, none of which are a commercial success. In South Africa, the Jackson variety is understood to be a seedless budsport of Triumph.
