Rio Red is superior variety and the preferred red grapefruit of growers in Texas. The variety has a good external appearance, with deep blushed areas where the fruit touch on the tree, and, though the rind is slightly thick, has exceptional juice content. The flesh colour is deep pink, but can be slightly patchy in early season fruit.
Origin: Rio Red was developed from Ruby Red in Texas, and released as a new variety in 1988.
