Florida Prince is an early-season, yellow-fleshed peach. It has a good red blush, up to 80%, and is a semi-clingstone variety.
Florida Prince is a low-chill variety, requiring 150 chill units to trigger production.
Being one of the first varieties to be ready, it can ripen quite quickly, provided it is harvested at the right time. This gives it a fairly short shelf-life, and often results it it becoming quite wrinkled in the fruit bowl. The wrinkling doesn’t mean it can’t be eaten, but is a good sign that it is ready. The flesh at this stage will be soft and juicy, with good sweetness and quite a tang of acidity in the background.
Florida Prince is notable as the first northern hemisphere peach variety to be sold in Europe after the end of the southern hemisphere season.
