The Importance of Variety

What is the key to finding the best tasting fruit? The variety name!

Just like apples, all fruit have a variety name, and just like apples, different varieties taste different.

We know that Gala apples are sweet and crisp, while Cox are more soft and tangy, but are less familiar with the difference between Shelley and Kent mangoes, Hass and Fuerte avocados, or Sable and Autumn Royal grapes. There can be a huge difference, especially in flavour and the Good Fruit Guide will highlight those varieties that are particularly tasty.

All packaging of fruit should have the variety name and the country of origin: so check the labels and make a habit of knowing what variety you are eating!
