Excellent quality raspberries are now plentiful from Morocco, Spain and Portugal, with the UK season just getting underway.
There are many varieties available, with quite a number being more recent, sweeter, firmer fruit with better shelf-life. Examples are: Driscoll Maravilla, Berry Gem, Berry Jewel, Diamond Jubilee, etc. These are lovely, but some have lost the traditional tanginess that many people like about the fruit.
If you are a traditionalist, try varieties such as Glen Lyon, often sold as a ‘value’ option (e.g. Tesco Rosedene or Morrisons Wonky).
Quality should be excellent as the season’s are fresh, though the fruit will never last for more than 2-3 days once at home, even in the fridge.
