A popular Italian cherry. Known as the queen of cherries, Ferrovia di Turi, it is very attractive, has large fruits and excellent taste. This heart-shaped, bright red cherry is particularly appreciated for its juicy, firm and sweet pulp.
Origin: The variety “FERROVIA di TURI” originated in Puglia around 1930, when a wild tree was discovered adjacent to the railway between Turi and Sammichele di Bari; since then this cherry was named “Ciliegia della Ferrovia” (Cherry of the Railway).
Grown in: Ferrovia cherries are mainly grown in the Conversano district, west of Bari in Puglia, southern Italy.
