Haden is the original ‘Florida’ variety mango. It is very sweet and has good flavour, but has some fine fibres around the stone.
Ripeness: If the fruit is properly mature it will soften and become quite tender when ready to eat. The background colour of the peel will turn pale yellow as well, and the flesh should be sweet and fragrant. If the fruit was not quite mature at harvest, the tenderness will never be achieved in the same way. Softening will take place, but a firmness will remain. The background colour will change, but may remain a bit mottled. Fruit is this state will be edible, but the fragrance and sweetness will be a little disappointing.

Names: Haden
Origin: The exact origin of Haden is not known, but it is probably the result of a chance cross of Mulgoba and a Turpentine mango. It was first discovered the wife of Captain John J. Haden, a retired U.S. army officer living in Coconut Grove, Florida in circa 1904.
Grown in: Florida, Mexico, Ecuador, The Gambia. Production in Ecuador is declining as trees are top-worked to the premium yellow mango varieties (Ataulfo, Nam Dok Mae, Francique).
